How has the Covid-19 crisis deepened our dependency on the giants of platform capitalism like Amazon and what does this mean for our future?
In this webinar organised by the Political Economy Research Centre (PERC) and Department of Politics at Goldsmiths College, University of London Sandro Mezzadra explores ‘platform capitalism’ and the key role of digital platforms as social and economic infrastructures during COVID-19. He examines how they have become a main terrain of struggle between private property and the commons. Will Davies will then discuss, teasing out what implications this might have for the future of democracy.
Sandro is Associate Professor at the University of Bologna. He is the co-author with Brett Neilson of ‘Border as Method, or, the Multiplication of Labor’ (Duke University Press, 2013) and ‘The Politics of Operations. Excavating Contemporary Capitalism’ (Duke University Press, 2019).
Will is Professor of Political Economy and the co-director of PERC. He is author of Nervous States (Penguin, 2019) and a regular contributor to the London Review of Books and the Guardian.
